Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child need to be to join Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Children who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but they can join the local Scouts BSA troop.

What supplies and equipment are needed for Cub Scouting?

Scouts will need a uniform and a handbook for their grade level. Here’s a shopping list. Additional supplies and equipment may be needed for certain activities such as camping trips but many families in the pack have extra items to lend if needed. The Pack supplies the various belt loops, pins and badges as the Scouts advance through the program.

Are girls able to join cub scouts?

Yes! The Scouts started welcoming girls to Cub Scouts last year and we had a great first year expanding the scouts to everyone.

Does my child need to be in the Portola Valley School District to join?

No, while we do have a large portion of Cub Scouts from the Ormondale and Corte Madera schools we also have kids from other area public and private schools.

I would like to be a part of my scouts growth, how do I participate?

There are great opportunities for your involvement! Every family is expected to volunteer in some capacity during the year. You can be a Den Leader, serve on our Pack Committee, or help with a specific Pack event that you enjoy. Check out our calendar to see our upcoming events and talk to a Den leader on how you can get involved.

What does it mean to be a Den Leader?

Being a Den Leader is fun and rewarding. Your child and all their friends will know you by name and look up to you. As the leader, you’ll decide when and where to hold the monthly Den Meeting. Cub Scouts provides a very thorough Den Leader Guide with minute-by-minute meeting plans. You’ll cherry-pick the activities from the meeting plans that you think are fun and easy and then facilitate your plan during the meeting.
